This morning as I sit here at the breakfast table, before I do anything else, I am focusing on my journey with the Lord and seeking His counsel for the day and week ahead. I want my life to be pleasing to Lord.
As I strive to stay focused on Jesus, “the author and perfector of my faith”, I am keenly aware that the enemy is prowling around seeking whom he might devour. He comes to “steal, kill, and destroy”, but Jesus “has come to give us life and life abundant.” BUT JESUS…!
The Bible is replete with encouragement and truth about a man or woman and their thinking. “As a man thinks in his heart, so is he” (Proverbs 23:7). As Johnny Hunt says, “what we think, we are.”
Therefore I need to daily seek a renewed mind. This comes with intentionality. Consider with me these words as the Spirit of God spoke through the apostle Paul in his letter to the Romans. “And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.” (12:2) The chance for a person to conform, or as Eugene Peterson translates, “become so well-adjusted to your culture that you fit into it it without even thinking”, is a very real possibility! So we guard our minds and hearts by paying close attention to what we focus upon.
So let us be encouraged to practice the discipline found in Philippians 4:8:
“Whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are noble, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there is ay virtue, and if there is anything praiseworthy, meditate on these things.”
May God transform our thinking daily as we focus on Jesus and the truth of God’s Word.
In Christ Alone!
